Which MacBook should I buy?

A short, honest guide to the three MacBooks Apple sells now: what each one is good at, how much memory and storage to get, and how to buy safely in the UAE.

MacBook Neo: for school, notes and everyday use

The MacBook Neo is Apple's most affordable laptop. It uses the A18 Pro chip (the same family as in iPhone) with 8GB memory, in fun colours like Citrus and Blush.

It's a good fit for students, browsing, Microsoft Office, Zoom calls and streaming. It's not the one for video editing, big spreadsheets with heavy formulas, or lots of apps open at once, because 8GB fills up quickly.

Pick the 512GB version if you keep photos and files on the laptop; it also adds Touch ID for unlocking with your fingerprint.

MacBook Air: the right choice for most people

The MacBook Air is light, silent (it has no fan) and its battery lasts a full working day. With 16GB memory it stays fast for years, which is why it's the laptop we recommend most.

It handles office work, coding, photo editing and light video editing well. The newest model uses the M5 chip; the M4 model is a little older and is still very capable for everyday work.

Storage: 256GB is enough if you keep most files in iCloud, OneDrive or Google Drive. Choose 512GB if you work offline or keep a big photo library.

MacBook Pro: for video, design and heavy work

The MacBook Pro has a fan, so it keeps full speed during long exports and renders. It also has a brighter screen and more ports (HDMI and an SD card slot), which matters for photographers, video editors and designers.

If your work doesn't push the laptop for minutes at a time, the MacBook Air is the better value.

How much memory (RAM) do I need?

8GB: browsing, Office, streaming, school work.
16GB: the safe choice for almost everyone, including coding and photo editing. It keeps the laptop fast for longer.
24GB or more: video editing, large design files, running virtual machines or local AI models.

Memory can't be upgraded later on any MacBook, so buy a bit more than you need today.

Buying a MacBook safely in the UAE

Buy it new and sealed, with official UAE warranty. Check the serial number on Apple's coverage page (checkcoverage.apple.com) after you open it.

Ask which keyboard layout it has (English or Arabic/English) before you pay. Be careful with prices far below Apple's: they are usually grey imports, used units or fakes.

At Cancom every MacBook is new and sealed with UAE warranty. Delivery across the UAE is free in 1–3 working days, you can pay cash on delivery, or pick it up from our office in Al Raffa, Dubai.

Questions people ask

Is the MacBook Air good enough for coding?

Yes. A MacBook Air with 16GB memory handles web and app development, Docker and most IDEs comfortably. Get 24GB if you run several virtual machines or containers at once.

MacBook Neo or MacBook Air for a student?

The MacBook Neo is enough for notes, research, Office and video calls. If the course involves design, video, engineering software or coding, the MacBook Air with 16GB is the better long-term choice.

Do MacBooks sold in the UAE have Arabic keyboards?

Many UAE models have an English and Arabic keyboard. Check the part number or ask us before buying if you want English only.
